Hundreds of young people clashed with police around Brussels-Midi station on the afternoon of Oct. 12, on the sidelines of a national strike day and a student gathering, Belga reported. Police said officers were targeted with projectiles and mortar-type fireworks fired by several individuals, some masked, and responded with tear gas and a water cannon. A strike meant to be a labor action turned into street confrontation in a district with a history of unrest, with a young crowd and pyrotechnics rather than organized unions at the center.

Today, Pope Leo XIV appointed Carlos Tomás Morel Diplán as Archbishop of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and as Military Ordinary. Leo XIV had named him Coadjutor Archbishop in October 2025. In this February video interview, Morel Diplán endorsed Pope Francis's vision of a “Church for everyone”: “The Dominican Church has always been very open.” He pointed to women's participation: “We already have women who are Communion ministers, who celebrate the Word.” “And that is why we are now talking so much about synodality. But the Dominican Church has long been synodal. [...] And that is a richness for us.”

Cardinal Pablo Virgilio David of the Philippines addressed the Vatican’s 10th-anniversary Amoris Laetitia meeting on October 12 in a video presentation. He said the exhortation encouraged pastors “to discern concrete situations rather than begin with classifications, to accompany gradual growth, and to trust that grace can already be at work even in lives and relationships marked by weakness and incompleteness.” And: “Not simply to ask how close families are to the ideal, but also how close the Church is willing to come to families in their actual struggles.” During the Vatican's meeting, terms such as “weakness,” “incompleteness,” and “vulnerability” are used as blatant euphemisms for adultery and other sexual sins.
